Large used timbers and beams
When a beautiful big antique timber is recycled and re-used, we are conserving our nation's old forests.
What makes an antique timber superior? The fact that they are genuinely old, as opposed to new wood attempting to look old. Used wood beams feature appealing colors and a pleasing patina from passing time.
A tree that grew in an ancient forest aged slowly because had to compete with other often larger timbers, making its growth rings very dense. For centuries the forests were undisturbed, allowing these majestic trees to grow tall and strong.
When the last of these giants were felled and taken to the saw mills, it was the end of a special era in our country's history. The conditions that allowed them to grow slowly would never be present again.
A large timber by its very nature, taken from a tree that needed hundreds of years to mature, was not considered for replanting and is now replaced by faster growing species.
Getting the old beams and antique wood cleaned and ready to market is a labor-intensive job, which is why used timbers are often the price of new wood.
Old-growth wood beams produces beautiful resawn used lumber. This antique lumber has an appealing patina and the character marks, vintage pigments and nail holes add to its personality.
